This has been an especially challenging eight months for the people of Lebanon. The ongoing covid 19 crisis and the difficult financial situation were already affecting a vast amount of people with basic food needs. Now after the explosion Lebanons Main grain silo was completely destroyed and there is a greater need for food releif.
Hospitals near the site of the disaster were severely damaged and hospitals farther out are overwhelmed and running short on supplies. Also, families already in financial crisis will be stretched further to pay medical expenses for their injured.
Thousands of homes have been damaged. In many, all windows and glass doors were blown in creating extremely dangerous living situations not only because of broken glass, but because families are now exposed to the elements and also vulnerable to looters. Certainly much structural damage has also occurred and many will need temporary housing.
In partnership with several local churches in Beirut our Lighthouse staff has begun coordinating teams to continue feeding families, and now also to purchase badly needed medical supplies, help injured peoples with medical expenses, purchase building supplies, provide assistance with home repairs, assist in securing temporary housing for now homeless families.
